12 Days Women of the Wild Expedition - A safari for women by women supporting women

Experience the very best of Kenya’s top wildlife crown jewel – the famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve, home to the Big Five, the annual wildebeest migration phenomenon and a plethora of other wildlife species and birds, before embarking onto the Kenyan coastal Diani Beach – a top global rated pristine and adyllic beach destination.

Day 1 : Arrival in Nairobi

Upon landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, our VIP team will warmly welcome you inside the terminal and assist with immigration and baggage. Once you’re through, your driver will be waiting to take you to The Panafric Hotel, just a short drive away.

Check in, freshen up, and enjoy a relaxed lunch as you settle into Nairobi.

After breakfast, we’ll head out to visit some of Nairobi’s most inspiring female artists. You’ll get a chance to tour their studios, see their work, and enjoy conversations over a delicious lunch at Cultiva Farm, one of the city’s trendiest restaurants.

In the afternoon, we’ll visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to meet the orphaned baby elephants and learn about their rescue and rehabilitation. We’ll also stop by the Giraffe Centre to feed the endangered Rothschild giraffes. Dinner and overnight back at The Panafric Hotel.

After breakfast, we’ll head to Wilson Airport for a scheduled flight to Samburu. On arrival, your driver will take you to visit the Samburu Girls Foundation for a deeply moving experience meeting the students and learning about their journey and the incredible work being done by founder Dr. Josephine Kulea.

From there, we’ll head to Saruni Samburu, your luxury eco-lodge perched on a rocky outcrop with panoramic views. After check-in and lunch, you’ll have the option of a walking safari, game drive or camel ride, ending with sundowners at a stunning viewpoint.

We’ll rise early for a morning game drive into Samburu National Reserve, famous for its unique northern species like the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Somali ostrich.

After a bush breakfast and more wildlife encounters, we’ll return to the lodge for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, we’ll visit a Samburu village and later meet with the team from SAFE Samburu, who use art and drama to raise awareness on key community issues. Dinner at the lodge.

Enjoy a leisurely morning game drive or simply relax by the pool soaking in the vast Samburu landscape.

In the afternoon, we’ll visit the 4C Cultural Centre for a guided tour and deep dive into Samburu heritage and traditions. The experience culminates with a powerful Ntorosi dance and a magical bush dinner under the stars.

After breakfast, we’ll transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to the Maasai Mara. On arrival, your guide from Saruni Leopard Hill will greet you and begin your Mara experience with a short game drive en route to camp.

Check in and enjoy lunch in the wild, then head out for an afternoon game drive in the exclusive Naboisho Conservancy, known for its thriving lion population and intimate wildlife experiences.

The “regular” or “dry” safari season in East Africa generally offers optimal game viewing due to reduced rainfall and vegetation, making it easier to spot wildlife. These months offer a balance between lower prices, fewer tourists, and decent game viewing.

Animals are concentrated around water, vegetation is low and sparse, and predators are circling. But at this time of year, the famous wildebeest migration is in Tanzania’s Serengeti, moving southwards following the end of year rains. Witness the Serengeti dramatic birthing season: it’s one of the best times to watch predator/prey interaction.

It’s green because it’s wet. This is the time of the ‘Long Rains’ and some of the more remote and wild reserves in East Africa are worth avoiding; accommodations may be closed anyway. Gorilla trekking becomes more difficult, and in Kenya and Tanzania’s reserves, wildlife tends to disperse across wider areas, making animals more difficult to see.
