Adventure Safari, Kenya

12 Days Women of the Wild Expedition

Days 1-3: Samburu Game Reserve; Saruni Samburu

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. You will be met by our representative and transferred to Wilson airport. Here, you will board your flight to Samburu, a semi-desert region in Northern Kenya. This region is known for its unique wildlife – The Great Northern Five: Beisa Oryx, Reticulated giraffe, Gerenuk, Somali Ostrich and the Grevy’s zebra. Spend 3 nights enjoying the wildlife and the rich culture

Continue your journey with a flight to a bush airstrip in the Masai Mara. Here you will spend the next 3 nights at Mara Plains camp. Take some time exploring one of Africa’s iconic safari destinations where you can see the great migration and the many predators that feed on this magnificent spectacle. You can also take a balloon ride, at an extra cost, to enjoy the aerial view of the Masai Mara.

On the morning of day 7, you will fly on your chartered flight to the Chyulu Hills in the Tsavo West National Park. Apart from game drives, you can go horse riding, mountain biking or even hiking here. There is an open air hide for some excellent game viewing and even sleep-outs on private “star beds” for the more adventurous. You can also enjoy scenic flights over Chyulu, Amboseli or Mt. Kilimanjaro, at an extra cost.

Today marks the end of your safari. Enjoy breakfast at the camp then check out. Transfer to the airport and fly to Wilson airport. You will be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where you will proceed to check in and await your onward departure flight. End of our services

The “regular” or “dry” safari season in East Africa generally offers optimal game viewing due to reduced rainfall and vegetation, making it easier to spot wildlife. These months offer a balance between lower prices, fewer tourists, and decent game viewing.

Animals are concentrated around water, vegetation is low and sparse, and predators are circling. But at this time of year, the famous wildebeest migration is in Tanzania’s Serengeti, moving southwards following the end of year rains. Witness the Serengeti dramatic birthing season: it’s one of the best times to watch predator/prey interaction.

It’s green because it’s wet. This is the time of the ‘Long Rains’ and some of the more remote and wild reserves in East Africa are worth avoiding; accommodations may be closed anyway. Gorilla trekking becomes more difficult, and in Kenya and Tanzania’s reserves, wildlife tends to disperse across wider areas, making animals more difficult to see.
